21 year old Kitchener man dead after confrontation with police

A 21-year-old Kitchener man is dead after a confrontation with police last night. The case is now in the hands of the provincial Special Investigations Unit.

Brybeck Crescent was busy shortly after 9 pm Thursday, and many people witnessed the confrontation. “I was walking my dog and heard some commotion then heard someone saying something about a knife then the cop went off and shot him 6-7 times. he was standing there, then he was gone.”

Many people heard the gunshots. Some heard police telling the man to drop it. Others said the man held a knife.

According to friends and family on social media, 21-year-old Beau Baker was the man killed by police. He was at some point a student at Fanshawe College. The SIU did not respond to requests for comment.
