If you’re looking for something to do on the weekend, why not take a stroll at the newly opened Rock Garden at the Royal Botannical Gardens.

The garden is offering tours this weekend for its official opening after spending $20million on renovations.

From the new waterfalls, the stairways, to the bridges and ponds, the Rock Garden has become an oasis.

The garden was originally built in an abandoned gravel pit in the 1930’s, as a make-work project during the great depression, with the goal of beautifying the area.

But over the decades, the stone had begun to weather and the garden was in much need of improvement.

The garden closed in August 2013, for the $20million rejuvenation project.

$7million was provided by the province, $7million from the Federal Government and $6million was raised by the RBG from over 2, 000 donors.

The garden has shifted away from the display of annuals, and now focuses on a perennial look, this in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly.

The RBG hopes the re-vamp not only drives tourism, but also brings the garden back to the forefront of the community that has cherished it for over 80 years.

Registered tours are being offered on weekends until May 18. Tickets are about $22 for adults and $17 forr kids.

Meanwhile general admission begins May 20th.
