Ontario Provincial Police are asking for anyone with information to come forward after a shooting in an area not known for high crime sent two women to hospital on Sunday.

Emergency crews were called to an area between Concession Road 5 East and Concession Road 5 West around 5 a.m. Hamilton Paramedics say they treated two people for injuries on scene.

“Subsequently, two females believed to be in their 20s were transported to a local trauma centre,” Supt. Dave Thompson told CHCH News. “One was transported in critical life-threatening condition and the other in is serious condition.”

Authorities are turning to the public for more information or first-hand witness accounts.

“If anyone was in the area between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. and was a witness, has dash camera footage or any other information regarding this incident they are encouraged to contact the Burlington OPP at 905-681-2511,” read an update from provincial police, Sunday evening.

In a part of Hamilton that rarely sees violent outbursts of crime, the incident was alarming to many.

“Certainly it’s not common, and we don’t see this happening on a regular basis, but it is concerning and I can tell you that at this point there is no apparent risk to public safety at this time as determined by the investigators, but of course the investigation is still early and ongoing.” said OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.

The roadway was closed for several hours amid a police investigation, but has since reopened.
