2 Hamilton police officers charged with assault in separate incidents

Two constables with the Hamilton Police Service are facing assault charges related to two separate incidents that took place in March and May.

On March 8, police were shown a video of an interaction between a citizen and an officer during a domestic and mischief call.

Following an investigation, Const. Michael Kowalchuk was immediately suspended and later charged with assault.

He is expected to appear in court on July 12.

Then on May 26, officers obtained a video following the arrest of a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation.

Const. Brian Wren was then suspended and charged with assault due to the level of force used during the arrest.

His first court appearance date is scheduled for July 21.
