2 arrested after stolen SUV caught speeding on RHVP

Two people have been arrested after police spotted a stolen SUV speeding on the Red Hill Valley Parkway (RHVP).
Hamilton police were conducting speed enforcement Thursday afternoon near Greenhill Ave. when an officer clocked an Acura SUV going 24 km/h over the posted speed limit.
When the officer pulled the vehicle over on the King St. off-ramp, police say the driver got out, and “became belligerent” before fleeing on foot.
A 37-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the SUV, was arrested and charged with occupy stolen auto. Police also learned the woman was wanted in Hamilton on an outstanding warrant for break and enter and obstruct police.
The 24-year-old driver was later found in the backyard of a home near Montmorency Dr. and Lanscott Pl. Investigators say the man had discarded some of his clothing in an attempt to change his appearance.
Police discovered the man was on probation and his arrest was a violation of his probation order. He has been charged with possession of stolen property, theft, and two counts of fail to comply probation.
Both people have been held in custody and are scheduled to appear in court Friday.
Police say the SUV had been reported stolen from a neighbouring police service and the registered owner has been notified.
