18-year-old Burlington man charged with multiple gun offenses

An 18-year-old man from Burlington is facing several firearm related-offences after he was caught with a loaded handgun in Mississauga.

Peel police say they were called out to an area near Destination Drive and Dubonet Drive for a disturbance early Saturday.

Authorities have yet to comment on the nature of the disturbance, but say the suspect left the scene upon their arrival. Police say that they were able to locate the man a short while later and were able to make an arrest with assistance from Halton police.

Investigators say they seized a loaded compact Glock 43 handgun, chambered in 9mm — along with nine bullets.

Officers have charged Ahmad Farooq with several firearms-related offences, as well as uttering threats to damage property.

Farooq remains in custody and is expected to appear in a Brampton court for a bail hearing Wednesday.
