Charges laid against 16-year-old driver in fatal Linc collision

The 16-year-old driver involved in a fatal collision on the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway in Hamilton last week has been charged following a police investigation.
The unidentified teen holding a G2 license faces charges of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and criminal negligence causing death, along with a driving prohibition.
The collision was first reported around 1:30 a.m. on June 19 when officers arrived to find one vehicle engulfed in flames and a second vehicle flipped onto its roof on the parkway between Upper Wentworth and Upper James streets.

Investigators say the 16-year-old boy driving a 2023 Mercedes YCG was speeding when it collided with a 2022 Lexus IS, which rolled several times before coming to rest. The Mercedes flipped onto its roof nearly 150 metres from the Lexus.
The 24-year-old driver of the Lexus was taken to hospital before succumbing to his injuries on June 21.
The teen driver has been released and will be scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
