A 16-year-old boy has been charged with second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a Hamilton man earlier this month.

Hamilton police say the teen, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested on Thursday after a number of witnesses came forward.

Police say Dwayne Bride, 42, was walking home during the early morning hours of June 3 when he got into a argument with two youths on bikes in front of an apartment building on Bay St. South.

This prompted a resident in the building to throw eggs at the trio. A passerby stepped in to diffuse the situation and the two youths rode off on their bikes to the intersection at Hunter St. and Bay St. The pair then came back and continued arguing with Bride as he walked west on Bold St.

Bride was later found lying in the street suffering from injuries caused by “a sharp edged weapon”. He was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Investigators also located the second individual but say he will not be charged because he was “not a party to the actual offence”.
