15 dead, 10 more in hospital after Manitoba highway crash: RCMP

RCMP have confirmed 15 people have died and 10 have been taken to hospital following a fiery bus crash on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Winnipeg.
Mounties say it happened at the intersections of Highways 1 and 5 near the town of Carberry, Manitoba Thursday morning.
It is being reported the crash involved a semi-trailer truck and a van and has resulted in what Manitoba health officials are calling a “mass casualty event.”
RCMP say the bus was transporting a group of mostly seniors heading to a casino when the crash occurred.

Mounties say they are working as fast as possible to identify the victims and get information to their families.
According to reports, the drivers of both the bus and the truck survived.
RCMP Supt. Rob Lasson says the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges are a possibility, but he declined to speculate on the cause or circumstances of the crash.
In a statement released on social media shortly after, Manitoba Premier Heather Sefanson called the event a “horrific and devastating tragedy” and thanked first responders and healthcare workers for their aid.
