The Joseph Brant Museum is getting a ten million dollar makeover.

The project, which has been in the works for over 30 years, received the green light Friday after 4.5 million dollars in federal funding was announced.

The museum will include a 14-thousand square foot expansion would be built under the original building. The project will also see a renovation to the old building that will make it more accessible.

“This building will become a national museums standards facility. It has the proper environmental controls to bring in exhibits from all over the world if we choose to which will attract audiences from many various places. We will also be able to exhibit some of our costume collection. We have the second largest costume collection in all of Ontario but we have no space to exhibit it currently,” says Burlington Museums Board member, Larry Waldron.

The museum hopes to break ground on the expansion this summer.
