14-year-old arrested after crashing stolen SUV in Hamilton

Hamilton police say a 14-year-old girl is facing charges after she allegedly crashed a stolen vehicle early Tuesday morning.
Around 8 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of Stone Church Rd. East and Upper Wentworth St. after a red Ford Explorer struck a post and took off.
Police were told three young girls were seen in the same vehicle in a nearby neighbourhood. They learned the trio had fled to a nearby townhouse complex.
Police say the girls had changed their clothing in an effort to evade police. The girls were located and arrested.
No charges were laid against two of the girls who were passengers in the vehicle.
The driver was released to her parents after being charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. She was released to her parents and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 6.
“The registered owner of the Explorer was contacted and made aware of the vehicle’s status,” said Hamilton police in a news release.
Anyone with further information that could help with the investigation is asked to contact police at 905-546-3886.
