The virus that’s sent dozens of children to hospital in Alberta and the U.S. is now in Hamilton.

Hamilton Health Sciences says there have been at least 14 cases of Enterovirus D-68 at local hospitals. It causes severe respiratory distress in children.

McMaster Children’s Hospital says it’s maintaining its usual high standard of infection control to help prevent the spread of any kind of virus.

Of the 14 positive cases, one is still admitted in hospital. The others were discharged over the past few days once their conditions improved.

Symptoms include fever, runny nose, sneezing and coughing, as well as muscle aches. Children with asthma are particularly vunerable to it.
