An 11 year-old girl is dead in Norwich Township after a head-on crash.

Oxford County OPP say it happened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday on Norwich Road between County Road 13 and Middle Town Line.

A car and an SUV were driving in opposite directions when they somehow collided head-on.

Police say the 11 year-old girl who was in the SUV with 4 other people died of her injuries.

There were two people in the car at the time.

Police say some of the other people involved in the crash were sent to hospital but are expected to survive.

Constable Stacey Culbert says it’s too early to tell if the weather was a factor in the crash.

“The cause of the collision is still under investigation. We’ll certainly be taking into all factors to what may have cause the collision. We did have some precipitation in the area at the time. We had some rain and snow as well, but again way too early to determine the cause. We’ll take a look at all the evidence and determine where that will take us.”

Norwich Road was closed for several hours during the investigation but has since reopened.

OPP are reminding drivers to be extra cautious when driving in snow and icy conditions.
