Actor Alan Rickman dies at 69

Actor Alan Rickman, one of the best-loved British actors, has died in London at the age of 69.

His death was confirmed on Thursday by his family who said that he died “surrounded by family and friends”.

Rickman had been suffering from cancer.

He is most recognizable across generations.

Fans will know him from his roles as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. The actor had been a big-screen staple since first shooting to fame in the 1988 Die Hard film as Hans Gruber and again as the outrageous Sheriff of Nottingham in 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

In his career, he was nominated for several awards and won a Golden Globe in 1997 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for TV for Rasputin.
