Toronto police say a Canadian soldier who served two tours in Afghanistan is believed to have repeatedly stabbed his pregnant wife before they both fell to their deaths from an apartment building.

Toronto police were called to an apartment building on Raglan Avenue, in the St. Clair Avenue and Bathurst Street area just before 6 p.m. Sunday.  Residents told paramedics that the pair had fallen from a balcony on the buildings 21st floor.

Police have identified the pair as 43-year old Sergeant Robert Giblin and 33-year old Precious Charbonneau. According to Giblin’s Facebook page, he and Charbonneau were married in mid-November. It’s believed she was nine weeks pregnant.

Giblin joined the Canadian Forces in 1997, and served in Afghanistan in 2005 and 2007. A department of national defence spokesperson said “the loss of any soldier is devastating to the military community. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Sergeant Robert Giblin’s family and friends.”
