10 confirmed dead in seniors’ home blaze

Officials say ten people are confirmed dead and 22 others remain after a blaze broke out on Thursday in a Quebec seniors’ home.

Search efforts resumed today at the residence in I’isle Verte after being halted last night because of the cold weather. Fire crews brought in new equipment to melt the ice at the site of the fire.

The building has 52 units, and investigators are still working to verify who was inside at the time.

Quebec police say crews are working around the clock, but it’s still too early to tell when rescue efforts will be complete.
