1 killed, 1 injured in fatal crash on Queenston Rd.

Police say alcohol and speed were contributing factors in an overnight crash that killed a 27 year old man from St. Catharines and sent another to hospital.

A Mazda sedan slammed into a concrete pole on Queenston Rd. near Cochrane Rd. around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

The male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger, 25 from Hamilton, was rushed to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Queenston Rd. between the traffic circle and Parkdale Ave. was closed for several hours this morning but has since been re-opened.

Police say this is the city’s first traffic fatality of 2017.
