1 dead in collision between motorcycle and pickup truck in Welland

One person is dead following a head-on collision with a motorcycle and a pickup truck in Welland Wednesday night.

Kerry Schmidt of the OPP says that the collision happened at Highway 58 and Kleiner St. at 8:30 p.m.

Schmidt says that the northbound pickup truck entered the southbound lanes and collided with the southbound motorcycle, sending both vehicles into the ditch.

The motorcycle driver identified as a 51-year-old man from Port Colborne was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 73-year-old man from Welland, along with a passenger were taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
