1 Billion Rising rally at Gore Park

It was a year ago today that the that the international feminist movement ‘v-day’ launched 1 Billion Rising. The movement now includes Hamilton.

The local effort began with a series of marches around 11:30, followed by a rally at Gore Park where participants are showing their commitment to ending violence against women. They join millions around the world by breaking the silence through art, dance, marches, spoken word and song.

More than a billion people took part last year in 207 countries.

Organizations taking part include The Good Shepherd women’s services, YWCA Hamilton, Mission Services and McMaster’s gender studies and feminist research program.
