Eager to help Max the Cat, residents contacted Home at Last Rescue to help capture him and get him to a veterinarian.

Earlier this week, the cat was located and taken to a local animal hospital, but it was too late.

Lori Waters, a director with Home at Last Rescue says Max was in a distressed state before heading into his surgery.

“This morning, he was a little panicky in his cage, because he was a feral cat after all, and he wasn’t used to being being confined,” she says. “So they gave him some oxygen, then he came back around was doing okay.”

But by mid-afternoon Tuesday, Waters received the call.

“Unfortunately, he didn’t make it through surgery.”

In May, another cat from the area was shot with a crossbow bolt in the back of its leg, and a week prior to that a squirrel was found with a bow injury.

That arrow, and the one which killed Max the Cat, have both been turned over to police, but local authorities have not commented on the state of their investigation.
