Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister travels to Greece, Israel, Jordan

Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly has announced that she is going to Greece, Israel and Jordan this weekend for a three-day trip.
The trip will take place from October 13 to 15 and will allow for Joly to reaffirm Canada’s support for Israel.
Joly will engage with her regional partners during her time in the region, including Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

She says her thoughts are with all civilians impacted by the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel.
“My priority is to meet with partners and see first-hand the evolving situation on the ground so that Canada can provide the support most needed at this critical time,” Joly said.
At least 2,800 people have died on both sides as the war between Hamas and Israel rages on into its seventh day.
At this time, Global Affairs Canada says they have been made aware of the deaths of three Canadians and says that four more have been reported as missing.

Canada is actively working on assisted departures of Canadians, as two flights carried Canadian citizens out of Israel Thursday.
Global Affairs is additionally reporting that there are more than 5,685 Canadians registered in Israel and 465 registered in the West Bank and Gaza.
Officials say they are moving to help those still in Israel make their way back to Canada with more flights scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
