The federal government expects 4.5-million COVID-19 vaccine doses to arrive this week.

But the arrivals come without a new logistics chief in place.

Questions have been swirling since Friday, when the defence department announced Major-General Dany Fortin was stepping aside.

Fortin was working with the Public Health Agency of Canada overseeing the delivery and distribution of COVID-19 vaccine doses across the country.

The reasons for his sudden departure were not revealed, aside from a brief mention of a “military investigation.”

His replacement has not yet been named, and it’s not clear how the vaccination campaign might be affected.

Pfizer and BioNTech had been scheduled to deliver two-million doses this week, but Ottawa says they will ship an additional 1.4-million shots.

Moderna is also expected to deliver 1.1-million doses this week.
