The Burlington Canal lift bridge will close to vehicular traffic on Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for continuing work on a rehabilitation project.
Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC) says that while motorists should expect delays, marine traffic will not be affected.
Pedestrians and cyclists may continue to cross the bridge via available pathways.
“PSPC encourages users to exercise caution when travelling on the bridge,” the federal government agency said in the release.
The 116-metre-long bridge is undergoing a full bridge deck replacement. This includes upgrading the approach spans and widening the sidewalk.
The bridge was built in 1962 and is the sixth bridge to span the Burlington Canal since 1830.
Work is expected to be completed this autumn.
