Burlington brings back paid parking at popular Beachway Park

First Published:

The City of Burlington is reinstating hourly parking fees for the season at its popular Beachway Park, asking visitors to pay up to $20 a day.

The City introduced paid parking at the beach in 2021, a move which attracted pushback from residents.

The cost of parking is $2.50 an hour or a daily flat rate of $20, with a transaction fee of $0.35 for each payment.

Visitors are expected to pay for parking from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and holidays starting this May long weekend.

Residents of Halton receive 10 free days of parking per year at Beachway Park using the parking exemption form. But the exemption does not guarantee a spot, it only allows for free parking for the day.

The money offsets increasing costs for the popular parking lots which make use of barricades, drop-off zones and parking ambassadors to manage locations.

Burlington beaches saw an increase in the demand for parking during the pandemic, according to the city.

Residents can pay for parking on their smartphones using the Honk app. Burlingtonians are also encouraged to walk or cycle to the beach instead of driving.

Burlington’s Director of Transportation Services Craig Kummer says the City is working on creating an overflow lot that could create approximately 30 more parking spots.

“Visitors using this overflow lot will also need to pay for parking and the fees to park in this lot will be the same as the Beachway lots,” Kummer said in a release.

The City warns that any cars parked illegally, mainly vehicles parked on Lakeshore Rd. shoulders and on the grass, will be towed.
