Brampton woman arrested after $28K ‘grandparent scam’ in Lincoln

Niagara Police were investigating a ‘grandparent scam’ after a victim in his 80s was defrauded $28,500, which resulted in an arrest.

The scammers randomly called the victim and convinced him that a family member was in legal trouble, and money was required to secure their release from custody.

The female suspect attended the victim’s residence on three different occasions to collect money, as a result of the investigation, 22-year-old Dominique Theresa Alexander-Connell of Brampton was arrested.

She has been charged with fraud over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Alexander-Connell was held in custody for a video bail hearing on Nov. 18. She was released from custody at that time with a future court date of Dec. 16 at a St. Catharines courthouse.
