Police have arrested a 41-year-old man after a prolonged standoff on east Hamilton Mountain on Monday.

Hamilton police say members of the public reported a black transport truck driving erratically on the Stoney Creek Mountain around noon, saying it had collided with a parked vehicle and the front of a residence.

Officers arrived on scene and learned from area residents that the driver had barricaded themselves in a residence in a new subdivision in the area of Lexington Avenue.

Police say negotiators were able to resolve the incident just after 6 p.m.

The 41-year-old Hamilton man, who remains unidentified at this time, has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault with a weapon, failure to comply with a release order and failure to stop after an accident.

Witnesses or anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the east end station staff sergeant at 905-546-2963.
