Annual memorial to honour late teen Devan Selvey held in Hamilton

Friends and family of Devan Selvey gathered for an annual celebration to honour his life on Saturday.
Selvey was murdered outside of Winston Churchill Secondary School four years ago when he was just fourteen years old.
Selvey’s loved ones say he was bullied in school.
His killer, also fourteen at the time, was sentenced to seven years in prison, but Devan’s family has been adamant that this simply isn’t enough.

Selvey’s mother, Shari-Ann Selvey says the annual event is a celebration of his life and a reminder to stay vigilant and actively stand against bullying.
“Not only did it shatter a lot of families, it shattered a community. It also shattered a lot of parents’ vision of school,” Shari-Ann says.
The day marks a call from his family to continue fighting for safety within schools.
