Ancaster man charged after police officer, security guards say they were assaulted at Scotiabank Arena

An Ancaster man is facing charges after he allegedly assaulted a Toronto police officer and three security guards at Scotiabank Arena Saturday night.
Officers were called to the arena shortly before 10 p.m. for reports of a man who became confrontational with event security after they attempted to check on the man’s well-being.
Investigators say the man allegedly assaulted three security guards, as well as a police officer during his arrest.
At the same time, a video posted on social media platforms X and Reddit showed a security guard putting their knee on someone’s head while trying to apprehend them at Scotiabank Arena. The security guard then pressed the man’s head to the floor in a puddle of blood.
Toronto police did not confirm the video, however, they say 37-year-old William Anderson has been arrested and charged with three counts of assault and assaulting a peace officer at Scotiabank Arena Saturday night.
The Ancaster man is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact police at 416-808-1400.
