All levels of government invests $6M into Hamilton transit services

First Published:

The federal, provincial and municipal governments are making a combined investment of six million dollars to improve Hamilton’s transit services.

A release following the announcement made Thursday afternoon reads that the funding will cover two main projects aimed at “helping Canadians get where they need to be.”

The first project will include Hamilton buying up to 15 accessible transit vehicles and four accessible supervisor vehicles. These will be used for emergencies when the HSR, DARTS or taxi-services are unavailable.

The new vehicles are planned to expand services while being equipped with dispatching software and vehicle location tracking for passengers.

The six million dollar boost will also fund a project to review the functional designs of two existing transit hubs and five new hubs across the city.
