Ford contractors caught street racing

Nine people have been charged with street racing after a number of people called police about several drivers speeding down Trafalgar Road in Oakville early Thursday morning. The speeds ranged from 120 to 127 kilometers an hour. Trafalgar Road is a posted 60 kilometer per hour zone.
Police responded to the calls by setting up on Trafalgar Road near McCraney Street. There are stop lights in the area as well as crosswalks — and several residential buildings line the street. Police say they were traveling in a tight group so they managed to catch up with all of the drivers. But it turns out the drivers didn’t even own the cars — they were hired by an third-party company to shuttle Ford vehicles from a storage lot in Milton to the Ford plant in Oakville. They are not employees of Ford Canada. However, Ford says it is dedicated to ensure this type of unprofessional and unsafe behavior is not repeated.
Eight of the drivers are men between the ages of 24 and 52 while one is a 27-year old woman. They’ve all been released and a court date has been set for May 13th in Burlington.
Halton police say this is a reminder that this type of driving will not be tolerated as the better weather approaches — regardless of time of day or road conditions.
