Welland bridge closed for overhaul

The Main St bridge in Welland will be closed for the next five months for repairs.

The bridge was officially closed today, so crews could begin stripping and repainting it. In the meantime, traffic is being detoured down to Lincoln St, and parking downtown will be free.

Work is scheduled to be ongoing from 7 am to 11 pm every day to fit eight months of work into five months.

The city hopes to re-open the bridge by September.
