Weapons haul at Rainbow Bridge

Police say six concealed handguns, two inert hand grenades, ammunition and knives were found after searching a van at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing on March 16th.

After receiving a tip from the Toronto Police firearm unit, the Canada Border Services Agency stopped a couple and their two children. Police say a search warrant of the couple’s home resulted in the seizure of an additional 34 firearms including 20 handguns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged after further investigation that five firearms were recovered at crime scenes in the city of Toronto and Peel region.

Donald Earl Hare, 44, and Amanda Brent, 43, of Proton Station have been charged with 73 firearm and firearm-trafficking related charges. They are to appear in court tomorrow.
