Owl pulled out of Dundas chimney

There was a happy ending for an owl in Dundas Friday,
Wildlife officials were called to a home there around 11am. When they arrived, they found an exhausted eastern screech owl trapped in the chimney. So the team, which included officials from wildlife control as well as an owl sanctuary, went to work. They carefully managed to get the bird out safely. But according to the homeowner the owl had been there for more than two-and-a half days — without food or water.
Steve Veerman is the homeowner. “Well I heard a rustling in my fire place and I thought he might be able to get out and today I realized I should call someone cause it’s been two in a half days. I’m sure he wants food & water so I’m glad I called the right people.”
Bill Dowd is the President of Skedaddle Humane Wildlife Control. “Anytime a squirrel or a bird is in a fire place, it is basically stuck there and needs to be rescued. They need a runway similar to an airplane to take off. They cant hover like a helicopter and fly straight up the chimney.”
After receiving a clean bill of health by wildlife officials — the owl was set free. Dowd says in his 25 years of business he’s only been called to three cases of owls being trapped in chimneys.
