Halton region’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr Bob Nosal, has announced his retirement.

Nosal has been at the forefront of some of the biggest outbreaks, including SARS in 2003 and swine flu in 2009. He also made some controversial recommendations to help reduce the rate of teen smoking.

The 60 year old Ancaster resident came to Halton in 1989, and became medical officer in 1991. He has been the region’s medical officer for 25 years, and says he will be officially retired on March 21st.

A replacement has not yet been chosen, but the new MOH will likely take over in May or June.
