An Ancaster woman and her dog are heading to New York City next month to take part in one of the world’s biggest dog competitions, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

We caught up with her and her bassett hound, cecil.

“They’re show dogs, but more importantly their our family, they live in the house, they sit on the couch watch tv with us…but on the weekend they turn into showdogs.”

Meet Foxy and Cecil. They’re both three-year old Bassett Hounds and veterans of the dog show circuit.

Josephine Lambert is Cecil’s owner: “They’re both Canadian Grand Champions, both American champs in the U.S.”

The 138th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is coming up in February. Cecil, and Ancaster’s Josephine Lambert are competing: “It has been my childhood dream, ever since I was small going to Westminster.”

Last year was their first time at the “big show”. Cecil didn’t place, but this time he’s in his prime: “Cecil definitely is more mature this year, last year he got into the ring and was jumping and playing.”

They train a couple of times a week, and Lambert says Cecil is a completely different dog in the ring: “We pull up to the arena, this dog knows why he’s there, and this dog get’s out and struts his stuff. Says everybody come look at me.”

This droopy faced beauty is up against 13 other Basset Hounds, and the competition is stiff.

“I am hoping that he puts on a great performance and we do well.”

Cecil’s got the pedigree, and plenty of ribbons on the wall already. So Lambert is liking his chances.
