Weather-related shut downs

The effects of yesterday’s cold are still being felt in at least two Hamilton schools and the area’s major cancer treatment facility.

An unexpected flood at the Juravinski Cancer Centre has forced it to shut down treatments for all patients today. Patients with scheduled appointments will be notified. Any patient with urgent needs or inquiries should call their oncologist’s office for further instructions.

The Juravinski hospital remains open.

Flooding has also closed down Canadian Martyrs Catholic elementary school. Crews are busy repairing a heating pipe; the Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board will announce later today whether the school will reopen tomorrow.

And the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board has announced that Lake Avenue School in the city’s east end will stay closed today. Classes ended early yesterday after the heat failed in parts of the 61 year old school.
