Two people are dead and two more are in hospital after a multi-vehicle crash on the QEW that closed the Niagara bound lanes at Centennial Parkway.

It was an absolutely brutal scene as the wreckage from four vehicles continues to be investigated. The most severe damage was to a Toyota Sienna minivan that was struck by a transport truck, killing two people inside.

You can see the severity of the damage to the van as it somehow managed to turn sideways and was hit on the drivers side.

The incident occurred at about 6pm Friday night. The OPP is working under the assumption that this is a chain reaction crash where one collision led to several others with the most devastating being the transport truck hitting the van where two people were killed.

The transport truck came to a stop about two hundred meters down the road. There is a considerable amount of damage to the front end as you can see the place of impact.

The collision reconstruction remians in the area as they investigate.

The coroner has been here to pronoucned the two victims dead. Earlier, we spoke with Sgt. Kerry Schmidt from the OPP and he told us that this happened on a part of the highway in a slow spot.

There were seven other people involved in this crash but only two of them went to hospital, and their injuries are said to be minor.

The QEW Niagara bound at Centennial was opened at 6am Saturday morning. No word if there are any charges at this time.
