Public elementary teachers approve deal

(Updated) The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario has accepted the deal offered by the province.

The ETFO put out a statement, saying 86 per cent of members and 98 per cent of locals endorsed the agreement.

Voting ended at midnight for 78,000 teachers on a tentative agreement reached November 2nd.

At that time, the Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario called off the work-to-rule action it had been engaged in since last spring, which had escalated to withdrawing from extra-curricular activities last month.

Details of the deal won’t be confirmed until the contract is ratified, but in terms of salary increases we know it’s similar to deals already accepted by the other teachers unions — with slight raises Education Minister Liz Sandals says are being paid for with cost savings elsewhere.

Both sides also say there was no payment for negotiating expenses like in the deals secondary school, Catholic and French teachers got.
