Tragedy on the rails this morning. A Mississauga tow truck driver is dead after his vehicle was hit by a GO train. As Kate Carnegie reports, the driver was responding to another collision when he was hit.

The tow truck driver, Randy Muzzi, was a long time driver for Atlantic Showcase Auto Collision in Mississauga. He was responding to another crash north of the tracks near Ninth Line when his truck was hit by a GO Train on the Milton line.

“He had been there to move the vehicle for the fire department. I guess he lost placement and ended up on the track.” said Tony Pento, who is the owner of Atlantic Showcase Auto Collision.

Muzzi was 54 and well liked by his colleagues.

The impact was so loud, neighbours were scared the train had derailed. “It was like my whole house just shook. It sounded like the train came off the track” said one resident.

There were 172 passengers on board the train. Luckily none of the passengers were injured. They did have to remain on board for about an hour and a half before buses were brought in to take them to different locations.
