Hamilton Council report

[projekktor id=’21613′]
There’s no shortage of people who would say the city of Hamilton is governed badly but a new study takes a more scientific approach. Using four years of data from the previous city council sessions, the report from the Manning Centre tracked everything from attendance to how councillors voted.
Regarding attendance, former Mayor Bob Bratina had the best record attending every single council meeting. The worst record went to councillor Brian McHattie, followed by Russ Powers and Terry Whitehead. Councillors met in camera 34 times but there were serious irregularities in the records kept by the city clerk.
Councillors debated on average 23 motions per meeting spending about seven minutes on each. Almost every motion (98.8%) was carried. As for influence, Sam Merulla was the most likely to get council support, Brad Clark was the least likely.
The Manning Centre says in the new year they plan to track voting and attendance records for Hamilton city council in real time.
