The family of Kadar Omar wants to see the man on trial for the murder of their loved one to be behind bars for a long time. The father of two was stabbed to death two years ago near Hess Village in Hamilton.

Zacharias Thibeault is charged with second degree murder. The trail has lasted three weeks at the John Sopinka courthouse and the jury left to deliberate the verdict on Tuesday. No verdict has been reached yet.

Omar left behind a daughter and son, aged 13 and six. Their mother, Collea Dubkinsky, says it is difficult for the children every time they see their father’s picture on television.

Omar and Thibeault were acquainted. The court heard that the two men had exchanged drugs. and at some point Thibeault became upset with Omar over the drugs he had sold to him. Angry text messages were sent by they ended with the word, “peace” and a witness said the men made up.

Evidence showed that on March 30th, police uncovered blood splatter cleaned up with bleach on the floors in Omar’s home. Omar had been dragged to the bathtub.

Kimberly Thomas, a friend of Thibeault’s, was charged with accessory after the fact.

Omar’s family says even though the 33-year-old had some trouble in his life, he was a devoted father to his two children and was torn away from his family way too young.
