A class action lawsuit has been launched against Hydro One over its past billing practices.

The statement of claim launched by Gravenhurst resident Bill Bennett says he received an envelope from Hydro One in April that contained nearly 40 revised bills from the past four years that resulted in a 185 per cent increase in cost.

In May Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin released a scathing report saying the government utility had sent  faulty bills to 100,000 customers and tried to cover up the issues.

Hydro One has since apologized to its customers and spent $88.3 million dollars trying to fix the problems.

Lawyers say the $125 million dollar class action is the best chance of justice for customers who can’t afford legal action on their own.
