13 month old toddler dies in Thorold

A family is looking for answers in the wake of a tragedy.
The family of 13-month old Kody Smart wants to know how the baby died after being injured inside a Thorold home over the weekend.
Family members want to know why Family and Children’s Services put the baby in the home of a grandfather who’d been previously convicted of child abuse.
13 month old Kody Smart was airlifted to McMaster Children’s Hospital on Saturday with critical injuries he suffered inside his paternal grandfather’s home in
Thorold.
Kody died on Sunday. His death is being investigated by the Niagara Police and the coroner’s office but no charges have been laid at this point.
In mid May Family and Children’s services removed Kody from his parents home and put him in the care of Brian Matthews, his 37 year old grandfather, a man that has been convicted of child abuse.
