It’s a name well-known not only here in Hamilton; but to police agencies across North America. For more than 2 decades, the Gravelle family has been connected to international drug smuggling rings, trafficking operations, and now to the growth, sale and distribution of marijuana, contrary to Canada’s medical marijuana laws.

51 year old Andre Gravelle has been publicly described as the kingpin of a criminal drug empire, that stretches back more than 2 decades. In that time, 3 convictions for drug trafficking have been registered against him, including a huge drug bust in Florida in 1993, a similar conviction for the largest drug seizure in Nova Scotia’s history in 2008, and a plea of guilty on other drug trafficking charges in 2003.

The trial of Gravelle, along with his sister Ruth Anne Gravelle Finlayson and 2 other men, Ronald Welch and Bradley Huffman, began today. They are jointly charged in connection to an alleged plot in 2012, to subvert Canada’s medical marijuana laws, by growing and selling marijuana illegally.
