After a few rough years, Fort Erie racetrack is looking towards a bright future after a fast start to the 2015 season. The track did over a million dollars in wagering on and off track on opening day and that broke a record. Not too bad for a track that lost their slot machines in 2012 which lead to a rough season that left many to thing 2013 would have been the end of the 118 year old track.

But thanks to local support and a province-wide five year $500 million boost to the racing industry, things are looking up at Fort Erie. Rick Cowan, the one man marketing team, also had more time to think of new ways to bring in new business, specifically, getting a younger audience. The track has added a concert series after the races and have added a farmer’s market.

The team is hoping for much bigger numbers for their upcoming 80th Prince of Wales race. The dream, is to achieve their first $2 million day and Cowan believes they can achieve it. A successful Fort Erie racetrack means a health Fort Erie city.
