Deer problem

Ashley Terri lives on the west mountain and says she’s spotted deer 6 times in the past 3 weeks but she doesn’t live anywhere near a forest. While they’re nice to see, she’s concerned for their safety.

3 weeks ago Ashley first saw deer in front of her home in a largely residential area of the west mountain but the deer kept coming. “Once ok, there’s deer outside, but 4 or 5 times it’s a little strange.”

Several deer run down the street in the morning, some stay in backyards for the entire day. “I don’t want to see anyone hit the deer first off and there’s lots of little kids that are running around the neighbourhood and I don’t want to see somebody get hurt or anything happen.”

She called the Humane Society and a neighbour called the police, but “they just said that there was nothing that they could really do about it.”

We talked to Brad Potts, supervisor with Hamilton Animal Control, he says that this is only a little unusual. “We get a large number of calls this time of year. The area is a little strange so I will be sending officers out to asses the situation.”
