Recent data shows Hamilton’s two-way bike lanes are growing in popularity, but along with increased use comes increased danger as pedestrians, cyclists and motorists struggle to understand the rules of the road.

On an average day, 450 cyclists can be seen using Cannon street’s new two way dedicated bicycle lanes. That’s the highest concentration of cyclists on any street in the City of Hamilton. City officials say the numbers are encouraging but they are also creating their own set of problems.

One of the biggest issues that council is going to have to deal with is education. Educating motorists, cyclists and pedestrians about who has the right of way when you reach a busy intersection. Like the intersection at Cannon and Wentworth where vehicular traffic flows in one direction but cyclists can travel in two directions, creating confusion and mishaps.[projekktor id=’19645′]
