Thieves had expensive sunglasses in their sights during an early-morning smash-and-grab in Waterdown.

An employee who works at the Vision Clinic on Dundas St says that he arrived at work this morning to find the main entrance to the store had been broken into. It looked like a truck had been used to smash the store. Hundreds of high end sunglasses were taken along with cash from the till.

Owner Foad Nekoui told CHCH News “We carry high-end sunglasses from designer names, Jimmy Choo, Dior, Gucci and Versace. These guys knew what they were going for. They were going for for the high end sunglasses.”

“There is a lot of inventory in here, high-end, and the demand for it is really high. They can easily go on the street and sell these things for half the price. I’m sure they can get rid of it quickly.”

Nekoui says this isn’t the first time he believes the truck has been used to gain entry into an optical store. CHCH News has been told by the Vision Clinic chain that they have been targeted a number of times in the past year and a half.

The owner believes $60,000 worth of merchandise was taken.

One last note: CHCH News had been on the scene since 11:00 this morning and police were first contacted after 9:00; as of noon they still hadn’t arrived.
