The world synchronized skating championships have arrived at Hamilton’s FirstOntario Centre.

Today’s competition begins with the short program. It’s the first time the world class event has been held in Hamilton, and organizers say the turnout has been amazing so far.

Local organizer Steve Scherrer told CHCH News, “We have exceeded the numbers from the world synchro championships in London in 2007.”

“We are very very enthused how the skating community, the skating family as we call them, have really stepped up from the GTA all the way to Windsor and those flying internationally. It is going to be a great event out here.”

Tickets are still available for today’s competition as well as tomorrow’s long program.
