Hamilton restaurants looking to make their mark this weekend

As the country’s best in music arrive for Juno weekend, many of the city’s restaurants see this as a chance to make their mark.
Rolling pulled pork wontons and frying chocolate donuts won’t win them a Juno, but the people who run one of Hamilton’s best known food trucks are excited for this weekend. “Music and food goes hand in hand, especially street food” says Brett Liersch from Dirty South Food Truck. He and the staff are prepping to cater tonights Juno kickoff at the Lister Block and James Street. Despite being well known in the city, they see this as a chance to expand. “We want to put on a show with everything we’ve got, so we’re bringing everything we have.”
They are expecting 500 at Lister Block tonight, and the truck will be working full out when thousands are expected to hit James Street for music crawl on Friday.
Joel Bennet is the new chef at Acclamation on James Street. He is making his debut this weekend and has created a few special items that they saved for the big crowds. “I think it’s just a week to have fun, to meet the people that normally wouldn’t be coming in.”
Louis mezza, owner of Mezza Cafe says that this weekend is about more than just putting money in the register. It’s about everyone working to showcase a vibrant hospitality scene “there’s a reborn happening here and we’re part of it and we want everyone to be part of it.” They have created two new specialty coffees to cater to the Juno crowd, and they are staying open late all weekend.
